Annie's Success Story
1. What brought you to Med*Thin?
I had reached the end of trying to lose weight on my own. I had tried countless methods and was exhausted and defeated. I wanted an advocate who could help me with my actual health, alongside me.
2. Did your goals change at all once you met with Dr Liao?
My goals did not change once I met with Dr. Liao but my feelings of helplessness and hopelessness disappeared. When was the last time a doctor actually *listened*? It made all the difference. Dr. Liao clearly synthesized many factors to help me reach my goals, rather than isolating one or two aspects of my life. It was as if someone was able to meet me where I was, in reality, and with compassion, help me transform my life —and not just for a short-lived success, but for good.
3. What was the hardest part about the journey?
The hardest part for me was being confronted with which parts of my personality and identity had been attached to how I interacted with food and others. It was uncomfortable, but transformative and necessary. I learned my tendency to people please extended to food. I learned how hard it is for others to encourage positive change because most relationships desire equilibrium. Change is discouraged or thwarted in the most subliminal of ways. But on the other side of this is more fulfilling relationships.
4. What were your biggest victories?
I have trust in my abilities to take care of my health long-term, confidence in recognizing and attending to my needs rather than people pleasing, and showing up in the world as myself. These victories have strengthened my relationships and enabled me to pursue my interests that I had long been ignoring. I also feel much more empathetic and patient all around.
5. What would you tell someone who is thinking about starting this journey?
I would tell someone that they have found a rare and incredible advocate in Dr. Liao. I would let them know they can trust their health, their story, and their future to Dr. Liao. Be prepared for the emotional work that is inevitable and necessary. Be kind, gracious, and patient with yourself. Trust the process and allow for the rhythms of fasting because for the first time you will be working with and befriending your body. Most of all, I would tell them just to get started. Just start. You got this, and Dr. Liao has got you.
