Hollie's Success Story
What brought you to Med*Thin?
Dr. Liao was recommended to me by my orthopedic surgeon. I needed a knee replacement, but my BMI was so high (48) that I wasn’t a surgical candidate and he wouldn’t operate on me. He told me that he believed in me and knew that I could commit myself to doing this. I lost a cousin to diabetes 3 years ago. She was 53 years old. One of the last things she said to me before she went in for heart surgery was, “Hollie, please don’t be next.” (Her mother also died of complications of diabetes.) It shook me to my core.
Did your goals change at all once you met with Dr Liao?
My goals never changed, but I started to believe that it was possible and that this would work for me when other methods had failed.
What was the hardest part about the journey?
Dealing with other’s opinions about fasting. I’ve had to do a lot of education with co-workers, friends, and family.
What were your biggest victories?
To date I have lost 96 pounds. I started at 307 and am now 211. I started in a size 26 and am now in a 14. The day I put on size 14’s and they fit I cried. I can fit in all seats and feel confident in airplanes, restaurant booths, amusement parks, etc.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about starting this journey?
If you are really ready and are willing to work hard and learn the science behind weight loss this will work for you. It takes a lot of commitment and determination. It isn’t a quick fix, but it is very doable. I am a postmenopausal woman who had tried many other programs, only to lose and gain back. This has worked for me for over a year now and I’m still losing. My BMI is now 33. I’ve lost over 26 inches. It requires making up your mind that this is it and committing to the program.
