COVID-19 Vaccination

Dr. Valerie Liao received her COVID-19 vaccine series (two injections 3 weeks apart) at Medical City Dallas Hospital.

I didn’t have any problems except a slightly sore arm.

COVID-19 vaccine eligibility has been expanded to include people in tier 1b.

You qualify for phase 1b if you are:

  • older than 64

  • if you are 16 years and up with any of these medical conditions:

    • obesity with BMI over 30

    • cancer

    • chronic kidney disease

    • COPD

    • heart conditions

    • solid organ transplant

    • pregnancy

    • sickle cell disease

    • diabetes

Covid research is still ongoing. So far, the data shows that the medical disease of obesity confers a higher risk of severe, life threatening COVID-19 infection, and a higher risk of death. Researchers have observed a greater number of ACE2 receptors in adipose (fatty) tissue. The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus attaches to these receptors to cause infection. It’s also important to continue social distancing measures and wear a face mask until community herd immunity is reached.

I encourage you to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine (2 shot series) with your PCP, pharmacy, or county health department.
